Snippets Playground - Dudley's Birthday

Hi Playmates!

I'm here to host another new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. If you want to join in, all you have to do is use up some of your snippets on a project, then come and play. Miss Di is getting better, but still uncomfortable.

For my homework this week: I made Playground favourite, Dudley, a birthday card. He’s 8 on Wednesday.

5" x 5"

Details:

  • Spellbinders Labels One set of dies
  • Sentiment was a magazine freebie
  • Old wooden Stampabilities stamp "Happy Snoopy" stamp F1075 (stamped onto a white snippet which I die cut, then stamped again on a smaller snippet so that I could cut Snoopy out with scissors and add him to the card front with foam pads)
  • Snippets = everything that was glued to the card front!

Sunday Snippets - Sending Hugs

Hi Playmates!

As Miss Di is incapacitated at the moment, I'm hosting another challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. Come and play!

For my homework this week, I made a paper hug for Di, to cheer her up and help aid her recovery. Apparently she has been colouring her arm with purple, green and yellow pens and it's still swollen and painful.

A6 sized card - coloured the white part of the top flower
with purple Inktense pencil

Sunday Snippets - The Cosmos is smiling on you!

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di and Dudley for the next fortnight.

Here's my homework - only one snippet used up again . . . but each one lowers the pile a little:

The left over snippet after I cut it away
from the bottom of the card.

Details:

  • Hobby Art "Bee Kind" stamp set for the flowers.
  • Sentiment made up of two different stamp sets: "Sending you lots of" is a Uniko stamp, "smiles" is a long retired Printworks stamp.
  • Bottom edging was a snippet. I glued it to the bottom of the card and cut the remainder off with scissors.
  • VFC Twilight ink used for all stamping.
I’d also like to enter this card into ALLSORTS CHALLENGE #851 where the theme is ANYTHING FROM THE GARDEN (or anything goes).

Sunday Snippets - Going Green!

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

For my homework this week, I used up part of a green gelli print that had been hanging around for a while, along with some white snippets.

4" x 5" Custom made base card to fit snippet.

Remaining snippets left from making the above card.

Why not use up some of YOUR snippets then come to play in the Snippets Playground. There's usually someone around to chat to in the Treehouse, or you can join the unruly mob behind the bike sheds. Alternatively, you can play on the swings; the roundabout or the slide (and the paddling pool in the height of summer!)

Details:

  • Green gel print snippet that I wanted to use up.
  • White die cuts: bird branch from a retired set by The Works; sentiment Happy Birthday Poe Script by Poppy Stamps.
  • Tim Holtz distressing tool used to rough-up the edges.

Sunday Snippets - Let's all eat cake!

Hi Playmates!

I'm hosting a new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. This is your opportunity to use up some snippets, then come over to the Playground for a 'show and tell' via Mr Linky.

For my homework this week I made a card using one of the stamp sets you can win over in the Playground. No, I didn't use the ACTUAL set that's up for a prize, it's just that I happen to have the set in my own stamp collection too, so I made something with it as an example.

This little card was originally a triptych card that went wrong ages ago, so I cut off the third panel and kept the (now) two panel card in my snippets pile for later use.

Then, would you believe it, while I was making THIS card, I messed up the stamping at the bottom, so the original snippet got cut down some more! It now measures 4" x 2.75"!!!! But it's cute, so it's OK!

Attempting to show you the glittery gold cases!

Details:

  • Hobby Art "Cakes" stamp set CSS003 (I made Post-It note masks for the cakes). I started by masking off the bottom cake, stamped the next cake up, masked that as well, then stamped the top cake.
  • The cakes themselves are coloured with a mixture of Tombow pens and watercolour pencils. The cake cases are coloured with glittery gold Signo pens.
  • White Sakura Gelli Roll 08 Pen used for highlights.
  • Sentiment is ANCIENT - no idea of its maker!

Sunday Snippets - Dragonfly Tag

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

For my homework I made a tag using a die set I was delighted to win at the Tag Along & ATC Challenge recently.

The finished tag

Below is a photo of the inner piece of the tag before I mounted it onto the outer piece and added the dragonfly and sentiment.

Believe it or not, the inner piece was WHITE before I brushed it with three different Distress Oxide inks, added some stencilling; some white modelling paste (which turned a bit green as I was too impatient to wait for the inks to dry) and some white splatters (using watered down white acrylic paint).

Then it was just a case of stamping and die-cutting the dragonfly and colouring it with Posca pens. I used the same Posca pens to colour a few of the modelling paste squares and added some dots. Then I glued everything together, punched a hole and added the twine before stamping and distressing the edges of the sentiment and glueing it in place. The sentiment IS on straight - it’s the modelling paste squares that are a bit wonky!

MATERIALS:

  • DIES: “Taggletastic" tag die set #30 by Aall & Create (white snippet used for inner piece);
  • “Dragonfly” stamp and die set by Hazel Eaton for Studio Light (part of a Dragonfly Dreams suite) (stamped onto a white snippet).
  • STENCILS: Funky Fossil “Grid” stencil (with modelling paste scraped through it); “Geometric Floral” stencil by Funky Fossil and “Flower Power #8” stencil by Uniko, both brushed with darker green Distress Oxide ink.
  • SENTIMENT from the "Tall Grass" set by Funky Fossil (stamped onto a snippet of SU Tip Top Taupe card leftover from cutting the outer tag.)
  • Posca pens and Distress Oxide inks for all COLOURING.
I would like to enter this tag into the following challenges:
  1. ALLSORTS CHALLENGE #845 under the theme of Things With Wings;
  2. WE LOVE STAMPING March Challenge under Wildlife theme/Anything Goes
  3. TAG ALONG & ATCs March Challenge under Anything Goes

Sunday Snippets - Happy Bird Day!

Hi Playmates!

I'm hosting a new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. Why not use up some of your snippets, then come over to the Playground for a 'show and tell' via Mr Linky?

For my homework, I made a card from some of the snippets I recently pulled out to play with (see HERE and HERE) and was still busy using up on the card below:

5" square card base.

Snippets I have been busy using up!

Hope to see you up in the Snippets Playground Treehouse for a hot chocolate and a natter. I've smuggled in a few bars of chocolate to share. It's OK - we can burn off the calories when we run around playing play Tag later!

Sunday Snippets - Hogs & Kisses

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

Here's my homework - a playful card for a good friend of mine who won't take offence at the sentiment on this birthday card. She also happens to love pigs! I just love the expression on the pig's face - and the sentiment makes me chuckle!

5" square card

Snippets left over after making
the above card. You can see my
embossed strip was only just
long enough for the card!

DETAILS

  • All stamps are from the "So Weird" stamp set by Whimsy Stamps (CWSD473)
  • Ancient Swiss Dots embossing folder used for the side strip.
  • Heffy Doodle Stitched Squares die used to cut the pig image out.
  • SNIPPETS = ALL the pieces of card on the card front.
  • Self-adhesive foam pads used behind the panel for dimension.
I would like to enter this card into the current ALLSORTS CHALLENGE 843 where our Val (Aquarius) has chosen the optional theme of EMBOSSING (wet or dry). As you can see, I went for dry embossing.

All you need is love . . .

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

For my homework this week,  I made a little love-themed ATC.

I stamped and stencilled a background on a white snippet that was trimmed to 2.25" x 3.25", then stamped and cut out the lovehearts from another white snippet and glued them on to the base. A black snippet trimmed to 2.5” x 3.5” was used for the mount.

2.5 x 3.5 ATC

Materials:

  • Black and white snippets of card
  • Hearts from Accessorize Stamp set by Visible Image (stamped twice onto white snippets and cut out by hand)
  • Script stamp by IndigoBlu
  • Bold LOVE stamp - unknown make
  • Smaller Love stamp by Uniko
  • Dot stencil by The Crafters Workshop
  • White Gelli Roll 08 pen for heart highlights
  • Picked Raspberry Distress Ink for all pink areas on card

I would like to enter this ATC into the January TAG ALONG & ATC CHALLENGE where there is a Love and Romance theme (or an “anything goes” option).

Sunday Snippets - Altenew Rose Cards

Hi Playmates!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year. I hope 2026 is good to you.

For my homework, I CASED a card that the wonderfully talented Viv made back in March last year. I just love this Altenew stamp set and ended up making 2 more cards with it while I had it sat sitting on the desk!

Card measures 5” square

Details:

  • Stamps: Altenew Beautiful Day stamp set for ALL stamping on the above card.
  • Inks: SU Calypso Coral; Lucky Limeade; Certainly Celery, Basic Grey & Smokey Slate. As well as Mustard Seed & Wild Honey Distress Inks.
  • Snippets: all the coloured foliage and flower are stamped onto white snippets of card.

Here are the other two cards I made with the same stamp set:

5” square card
+ Paper Artsy JOFY sentiment and Funky Fossil Geometric Floral stencil

A6 sized card
+ Retired SU birthday sentiment

Sunday Snippets - a Christmas Candle

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

For my homework I was messing about in Art Class and drew a small candle on a snippet of white card. I quite liked it - so I mounted it onto a black snippet of card after rounding all the corners with a punch. I was inspired to draw the candle having seen Tina Cox’s designs for Clarity Stamp. (However, I figured I could draw a candle myself and save £20!)

It was still quite a small image due to the size of the snippet I picked, so I reached for a long strip of white card (a snippet left from making my own card blanks). The strip measured 2.5" x 11.5", so I scored it at 4", 8" & 9¾" to make a zigzag card base.

Side view to show the card shape.

A face-on shot!

After making the card shape, I stencilled over it and glued the candle to the front panel. Then added the Merry Christmas sentiment.

Materials:

  • Hand drawn candle, coloured with Tombow pens.
  • Retired sentiment by Clearly Besotted*
  • Stencils: "Dotty Circles" (magazine cover gift); "Bubbles" Dinky Stencil TC005 by That's Crafty.
  • Snippets - ALL the pieces of card used for the card.
*EDITED to say I originally stated that Clearly Besotted were no longer trading but this is not the case. I’ve checked and the owner, Stephanie, says her little business is fully operational.

Sunday Snippets - 12th October 2025

Hi Playmates!

I'm hosting a new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. This is your opportunity to use up some snippets, then come over to the Playground for a 'show and tell' via Mr Linky.

For my homework this week I decided to make a monochromatic card with a VERY OLD stamp by Rubber Romance. I’m afraid the name of the stamp is lost in the mists of time, but I'm calling her "Chocolate Girl"!

5.5" x 4.5” Landscape side opening card

Everything was stamped and coloured with SU Misty Moonlight ink.

I tapped the ink pad onto an acrylic block and picked up the colour with a waterbrush to colour the image, which was then mounted on a snippet of SU Misty Moonlight card. The sentiment is made up from two different stamp sets - one of which is by Stamping All Day.

Sunday Snippets - 28th September

Hi Playmates!

I don't do ‘cute' very much these days - but I simply couldn't resist this £1 charity shop find . . . a little LOTV bear stamp (with a sentiment that I opted to leave off this square card).

Card measures 5" square

Details:

  • LOTV bear stamp.
  • Floral punch-out added to the top right corner.
  • Watercolour pencils and a waterbrush were used to colour the main image.
  • All paper items on the card front are from SNIPPETS!

Miss Di is in charge of the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight - so skip over there to find out what lovely prize she is offering, as well as all the details on how to enter.

Sunday Snippets - 14th September

Hi Playmates!

I'm hosting a new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND. This is a great opportunity for you to use up some of your snippets, then come over to the Playground for a 'show and tell'.

Miss Di is feeling better, but still has some healing to do. She's been safely ensconced in a comfy chair in the Staff Room with Dudley dancing attendance!

For my homework this week I made a card showing how one of the prize stamps can be used - as I have the same stamp in my own collection:

Card measures 5" square

Details:

  • Crafty Roo "Embrace the simple things" sentiment stamp (no longer available unless you win the challenge prize!).
  • AALL & Create #67 "Broken Circles" stencil.
  • SU splatter stamp from the retired "Gorgeous Grunge" set.
  • Florileges Design "newsprint" stamp (dabbed on here and there!).
  • Snippets: the daisy and its centre. The daisy die is by Marianne Designs. The flower centre is waste fall out from cutting with other dies!

Sunday Snippets - 31st Aug

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight. Di is feeling better than last week, but still has some healing to do.

I was asked to make 6 gift boxes for a friend to use at Christmas. Below is one of the decorated boxes (details on how to make it are HERE - just scroll down to Chocolate Bar Box).

I decorated 2 of the boxes using the same 12" x 12" piece of designer paper, then used the left over snippets of that paper to make the birthday card shown below (with a matching envelope).

5" square card & envelope with matching snippets used
from the scraps of paper left over from making the box.

The buff coloured card mount and sentiment were die cut
from cereal packaging.

Card Details

  • Snippets of DSP (unknown brand).
  • Poppy Stamps die: "Happy Birthday Poe Script" (cut from snippets of the Bran Flakes packaging).
  • Snippets of packaging for the mount.

Hi Playmates!

I'm hosting a new challenge over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. This is your opportunity to use up some snippets (scraps/leftovers), then skip over to the Playground for a 'show and tell' via Mr Linky.

For my homework this week I created the card below, having been inspired to play with my wooden stamps by Lesley G:

A6 sized card

  • Wooden Penny Black stamp "Whispers" (3377K from 2006) stamped with SU Rich Razzleberry ink and coloured with a waterbrush using Rich Razzleberry & Lucky Limeade inks.
  • Torn snippet of patterned paper glued to bottom of card front.
  • Happy Birthday sentiment (possibly by Uniko) stamped onto a white snippet of card and then cut with the smallest Heffy Doodle Stitched Rectangle die.

Sunday Snippets - 3rd August

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

The weather has cooled down somewhat, so we’ve cleaned and put away the paddling pool for the time being, and the water slide has reverted to it its normal mode of just being a plain old slide!

Here's my homework:

A6 sized card
Snippet of white card swiped with
with Villainous Potion ink pad & die cut.

Details:

  • Bird die (from The Works) used on a white snippet that had been swiped with a DI Villainous Potion ink pad.
  • Snippet of SU Misty Moonlight card, cut with the smallest Heffy Doodle Stitched Rectangle die and glued to card front to "ground" the bird.
  • Visible Image sentiment from the Birthday Wishes set, stamped in SU Misty Moonlight ink.

Now, why not go and play with your snippets, then come and join us over at the Snippets Playground. There’s a lovely prize on offer for one lucky winner.

Sunday Snippets - another bird card!

Hi Playmates!

Miss Di is in charge of the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight - so why not skip over there to find out what lovely prize she is offering, as well as all the details on how to enter.

My homework uses up just two snippets, but they make a big impact on the card front along with a larger birthday sentiment. I thought this would make a good masculine birthday card - which I always find harder to make.

A6 Card

Details:

  • Unbranded bird die from Temu, cut from a masterboard snippet.
  • Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles die used to cut a navy blue snippet.
  • Birthday sentiment from a Visible Image "Birthday Wishes" stamp set.
