Sunday Snippets - Small Wallet

Hi Playmates!

There's a new challenge to play along with over at the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND hosted by Miss Di for the next fortnight.

For my homework, I made a little wallet to hold a book of postage stamps and a gift voucher to give as a gift (measurements at the end of this post).

Details:

• I took a larger snippet of SU Island Indigo card and trimmed it to 7½" x 5".
• The long edge was scored at 1" and  4¼". Then it was turned 90 degrees and the short edge was scored at 1". All scored lines were creased and folded. I then flipped the whole piece over so that the flap was on the right hand side and the pockets at the bottom.
• I trimmed a sliver of card off the left hand pocket edge so that it would not impede the small front flap when closed.
• A corner rounder punch was used on the small front flap, and a notch punch in the centre of the two pockets (see picture). Once the pockets had been "notched", a THIN line of wet glue was added at the edge of the FAR RIGHT and FAR LEFT of the pockets ONLY. (There is no glue by the middle score line between the pockets.)
• Then I decorated it by cutting into a WHOLE sheet (shock, horror) of beautiful 8" x 8" floral patterned paper from Funky Fossil's "Pretty Little Things" paper pad. I trimmed the patterned papers to be a quarter inch smaller than each pocket and flap measurement.
• To finish, I added a sticky backed magnetic closure. If you don't have one of those to use as the closure, you can always make a paper wrap to go around it, or tie ribbon round it before adding the patterned paper - OR - as ingeniously used by Liz HERE - cut up a piece of sticky backed Velcro!

Playground Round-up!

After all the excitement of having 8 winners for the December challenges, we are back to normal this fortnight. However, as Valentine's Day is next up . . . Miss Di has a prize bundle to reflect this and has chosen an optional theme of "Love is in the Air" (you can still enter with an "Anything Goes" piece of homework). PS: Don't tell Miss Di, but I've ordered a little microwave for the treehouse - so we can have yummy treats like sausage rolls heated up - or maybe some soup, etc. I managed to get an electrician to install a couple of extra power sockets in the treehouse while Miss Di was busy trying to keep the old school boiler going in this cold weather. The game was nearly up when Miss Di spotted the turned over soil where the cable went, but I think I managed to persuade her it was ambitious moles!

13th Blogoversary Snippets Playground Challenge

New Year . . . new challenge.

I'm hosting the SNIPPETS PLAYGROUND for the next fortnight. So why not take a look at your pile of snippets, make something with them, then enter the 'show and tell' via Mr Linky.

It's the Playground's 13th Blogoversary on 8th January 2025, and to celebrate, there is a special prize available for one lucky winner.

Shaped 60th birthday card

These are the 2 x A4 masterboards I made and used.

Masterboard Details:

• I took two A4 sheets of 300gsm white card and used my brayer to run purple ink all over to get the first layer down.
• The next layer was created by brushing ink around a leafy Funky Fossil mask in both blue and purple ink. 
• I used part of the same Funky Fossil leafy stencil/mask set, but with the open stencil this time. I added green paint through the stencil - but I didn't like the effect, so I put the stencil back in place and painted over the green with white acrylic paint. 
• The final layer was added using various stamps and VFC Twilight ink.

To create the card base:

I took a sheet of 300gsm white card measuring 11.5" x 5.75", scored the long edge at 5.75", then folded the front cover in half and folded it back on itself. I cut the masterboards into relevant panels and mounted them onto SU Island Indigo card measuring a quarter of an inch more all around the panel .

I decorated the panels by die cutting various snippets shown in the photo below. I now have snippets of the masterboards left over for future use - so watch this space!

A gift - in more ways than one!

A new challenge started at Allsorts today and runs for the next fortnight. There is a great theme of MATCHING PAIRS to play along with, or you can choose to enter under the Anything Goes option. Two prizes of Lavinia Stamps are on offer and you can enter up to 5 times now.

Earlier this week, I received Happy Mail from a good friend, which really cheered me up and inspired me to play (thanks, you know who you are!).

I made a card and a pair of tags using the same stamp and matching die.

My card measures 4.75" square

Shown above is the sweet little present stamp and matching die that I used on both the card and the tags (so I suppose that could also cover the matching pairs theme!).

The card sentiment is by Visible Image, but the tag sentiment is old and I can't remember who made it. I used my favourite SU Island Indigo colour of ink, with a waterbrush, to colour the images. The tags were created with the SU Tag Topper punch (retired).
